Treatment for bulimia

Hospitalization is exceptional.

The therapeutic approach of bulimia is not uniform, it may involve a combination of techniques:

  1. - Psychoanalysis
  2. - Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy
  3. - Groups of speech
  4. - Cognitive-behavioral

1.
Psychoanalysis

A request for individual psychotherapy is often asked by the person concerned.

But the first psychotherapy (either support or analytical) confronts a situation boulimique face to face with the therapist.

It is sometimes difficult to bear in the case of bulimia. It is therefore sometimes preferred, at least at first, a groupthink in the various talking group led by a psychotherapist.

Of course the food rééducation dieticians and improving body image should not be forgotten.

The psychoanalytic approach, whose importance is evident, will be parallel and very gradually.

2. Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy

This type of therapy is a modification of analytical practice that has been built up as deepening.

In particular, the best exercise of this practice in the field of childhood and adolescence, therapists have sought to strike a compromise caused by the intolerance of the patient to the rigidity of the framework of the analytic cure.

There was a change of strategy: The framework is still regular, but the cure is "face to face", (the couch is replaced by a chair), a more "meaningful" and more active therapist, with less frequent sessions, spaced more or less for a period of more limited than for analysis.

Each case is particular and the analyst will define an object, a method of investigation and an action strategy adapted to the case of the patient.

What does not change is that these therapies are still performed by analysts, they remain deeply inspired by a similar mental processes but take into account their dynamic evolution.

This dimension more flexible framework for action and this adaptation of the therapist in case the patient makes this especially effective therapy to an audience suffering from eating disorders.

Therapies anorexia

What are the treatments?

They range from a first contact with a psychotherapist to establish a dialogue and begin a process of understanding in some cases, until the emergency hospitalization in other cases.

- Hospitalization is required when the diagnosis is vital at stake

It has three principles:

- Restoration of a physical condition that does the patient more at risk.

- Isolation of the community pathogen.

- Establishment of a psychotherapeutic care.

Will also rehabilitate the power supply, possibly a body to reconcile anorexic and her body, groups of words for both parents, for the patient (s) themselves.

The psychoanalytic psychodrama is also frequently used with good results.
